About Virtual Office Hours

Like you, I have a very busy schedule throughout the week. The table above indicates when I am generally available.

I go online each morning around 7 AM (LA time) and remain online until about 11 PM (LA time). While I am online, this does not mean that I am instantly available. I ask you to be patient. I will do my best to be available as soon as possible.

Use the Appointment Request Form (to the right) as a quick, convenient way to arrange a face-to-face or virtual meeting. This enables us to quickly arrange a meeting and allows both of us to understand the purpose of the meeting.

Throughout the course, please use Skype as our primary communication method. Skype's versatility (i.e., audio/video calling, instant messaging, and voicemail) makes it easy for us to communicate 24/7. My Skype username is "ricklillie."

Download Skype. Use the add contacts feature to add me to your Skype contacts list.

If you call me on Skype and I can answer your call, I will. If I cannot answer your call, please leave a voicemail message or type an instant message. Skype will let me know that you tried to contact me.

In your message, indicate a good time for me to get back to you. If you want me to call you, include your name and telephone number in your message.

Another great way to contact me is to record an Eyejot video email message of up to 15 minutes in length. To access Eyejot, click the Eyejot button on the Blackboard course page, or click the Eyejot picture on the right side of this page.

Eyejot is a great way to explain an issue or ask a question. I will listen to your message and reply to you in writing or by Eyejot as quickly as possible.

If you want to set up a specific time to meet, please indicate this in the Comment Section of the Appointment Request Form. This way we can find a mutually agreeable time to meet. Be sure to include the requested DAY, TIME, and APPOINTMENT METHOD (Telephone or Skype) in the COMMENT section of the request form. I will do my best to quickly reply to your appointment request.

A hallmark of my teaching style is close, personal contact with my students. While we all have time constraints, I believe you will find my approach to virtual office hours to be a warm, friendly way to connect with each other throughout the course.
